LUSO Community Services, London
LUSO Community Services is a non-profit multicultural community centre dedicated to promoting inclusiveness, well-being, and the prosperity of the London community. They have been providing programs and services in the London community for children, youth, families, and seniors since 1979.
One of LUSO’s initiatives is involvement with the northeast Community in London. This community is largely comprised of subsidized housing units, serving families who are at high-risk, struggle with low-income, and who are very diverse in terms of their racial, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds. Among the problems facing this community are; poverty, racism, lack of adequate transportation, issues of social isolation, and difficulties accessing services.
LUSO operates a community resource centre for residents who live in Northeast London; its location is 1100 Victoria Drive (Lord Elgin Public School) which is in between Boullee and Huron Heights London Middlesex housing properties. Northeast London residents access the resource centre to receive emergency food, gently used clothing, emergency baby food, baby formula and diapers. Between January and July 2011 they have had over 500 individuals’ access the centre. While at the resource centre community members can connect with one of the community developers to research various services offered in Northeast London and help get connected to service providers to assist with various needs
Dulux Paints Sales representative Simon Fader and his team in London will be adding colour to those who visit the LUSO community resource centre on October 28th.
